Where: Key West Wildlife Center (Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park), 1801 White Street, Key West, FL
The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden, in collaboration with the Key West Wildlife Center and the Florida Keys Community College Environmental Club, will be coordinating an effort to remove invasive species from the Sonny McCoy Indigenous Park as part of the Service Saturday program of the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. Volunteers will be trained in identification and removal of invasive exotic plants and help to preserve the area for migrating birds and other species that rely on this rare habitat.
Details: Volunteers interested in assisting with the cleanup effort should plan to arrive at, or slightly before 9:30am at the Wildlife Center where they can sign in, enjoy some light refreshments, and learn about the project before going out into the field. Lunch will be provided at the end of the project and participants are encouraged to stay and socialize.
Attire: Volunteers should plan to get their hands dirty and dress accordingly. Closed-toe shoes, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended. Optional: Gloves, Bug spray, sunscreen, inexpensive sunglasses.
